WUC Rugby Sevens 2020


World University Championship (WUC) Rugby 7s ‘La Plata 2020’ will be the second time the sport comes to our continent. In 2014 WUC was held in Brasil, Sao Jose Dos Campos, a city located between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

But how WUC Rugby 7s started?

It entered the programme of the FISU World University Championships in 2004 with a first edition organised in Beijing (CHN), which welcomed 159 rugby players from nine countries. Since then, the number of participants has constantly grown, as well as the number of participating countries, reaching the record number of 273 participants from 17 countries at the 2010 edition hosted by the Portuguese University Sport Federation in Porto. The 5th World University Rugby Sevens Championship was organised in the city of Brive-la-Gaillarde, France, one of the homelands of rugby. (FISU)

Till today, the Championship visited four continents, Europe, Asia, Africa and América. In 2016 the Championship moved to Swansea, in Grat Britain and  In 2018 Swakopmund, citry from Namibia received it. And it became into the first african city that hosted such an event.

Next year, Argentina will receive a WUC for the first time in La Plata. The city is the capital from Buenos Aires Province and it is one of the biggest cities in Argentina with almost a millon inhabitants. We hope to see you in La Plata 2020.
